A customer, in her words

“You want to sleep at night knowing the work was done right and with safety as a top priority. You want Justified.”

Let me state for the record that this is not the cheapest guy in town. And when it comes to electrical work, you don't want the cheapest guy. You want the best. You want to know you are in good hands and that you are working with an honest owner with exceptional knowledge and skills. You want reputable and you want a fair price. And most importantly, you want to sleep at night knowing the work was done right and with safety as a top priority. You want Justified.

We needed major work done. We researched, we got in the quotes, we checked those ratings and reviews. And everything added up and pointed to Justified. Like I said, a little higher than some, but no gouging, no surprises, and from beginning to end, we knew we were in good hands. We can not recommend them highly enough and I will be spreading this review everywhere I can.

Thank you so much for excellent work and above all else, piece of mind.

Local knowledge

Wired for eastern Baltimore County.

A century of houses sits between the city line and the Gunpowder. Each era hides its own wiring, and we know what to look for in every one. BGE is the utility everywhere we work; Baltimore County handles permits outside the city.

  1. 1900s–1940s

    Rowhouses, bungalows, city-line homes

Knob-and-tube, cloth cable, fuse boxes, 60-amp services. Parkville, Overlea, Towson, the city.

  2. 1950s–1970s

    Brick ranchers, split-levels, Cape Cods

Ungrounded two-wire circuits, original 100-amp panels, some aluminum branch wiring, Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels.

  3. 1980s–1990s

    Colonials and townhouse communities

Panels at capacity after basements, hot tubs and second HVAC systems were added.

  4. 2000s–today

    Honeygo, White Marsh, custom homes

Sound wiring. The work is lighting, surge protection, generator hookups and new circuits.

Where we work

Perry Hall and the towns around it.

Justified Electrical Services works out of Perry Hall in eastern Baltimore County. Most of our calls come from the Belair Road and Harford Road corridors, out to White Marsh and Kingsville and in toward Towson and the city.

Straight answers

Electrical questions, answered.

I smell something burning near an outlet or the panel. What should I do?

Turn off the breaker for that area, or the main breaker, if you can reach it safely, then call an electrician. If you see smoke or flames, get everyone out and call 911.

A burning or hot-plastic smell usually means a connection is overheating: a loose wire on an outlet, a failing breaker or an overloaded cord. Do not keep using the circuit to see if it happens again. Unplug what you can without touching anything hot.

Do older Baltimore County homes still have knob-and-tube wiring?

Some do. Houses built before about 1940, common in Parkville, Overlea, Towson and Baltimore City, may still have knob-and-tube in walls and attics, even after other updates.

It has no ground, the insulation gets brittle, and it was never meant to be covered by attic insulation or carry modern loads. Many insurers ask about it. An inspection tells you whether any of it is still live and what to replace first.

How do I know if I need a service upgrade?

You likely need one if your panel is full, breakers trip when big appliances run, you have a 60- or 100-amp service and are adding central air, a heat pump, an electric range, a hot tub or an EV charger, or your panel is a brand with known problems.

The honest way to decide is a load calculation, not a guess. Sometimes a new panel on the same service is enough; sometimes the service itself needs to grow.

Is whole-home surge protection worth it?

For most homes, yes. A surge protector installed at the panel helps protect everything in the house, including HVAC controls, appliance boards and electronics, from surges caused by storms and utility switching.

It works best together with good grounding and point-of-use surge strips for sensitive electronics. It cannot stop a direct lightning strike, but it handles the far more common smaller surges.

Can you add recessed lighting to an existing ceiling?

Usually, yes. Slim LED recessed fixtures need very little ceiling space and can be installed through small openings, with the wiring fished above the ceiling.

Ceilings with an attic above are easiest. Between floors, joist direction and plumbing or ductwork decide the layout, so we plan the spacing before cutting anything.

How do I check that an electrician is licensed in Maryland?

Use the license search on the Maryland State Board of Electricians website, part of the Maryland Department of Labor. Search the electrician's name or license number and confirm the license is active.

Maryland licenses master, journeyperson and apprentice electricians. Ask who will hold the permit, and make sure the company carries insurance.
