Electrician in Perry Hall, MD

Our shop phone has rung from Perry Hall since 2007. This is where we live and work.

Perry Hall takes its name from the Perry Hall Mansion, but almost everything around it is newer: the post-war neighborhoods off Belair Road, the split-levels and colonials of the 1960s through the 1980s, and the townhouse and single-family streets that filled in around Honeygo in the 2000s.

That spread of ages shapes the work. A 1960s house off Joppa Road may still have its original 100-amp panel and a basement full of add-on circuits; a 2005 house in Honeygo usually needs lighting, a dedicated circuit for a new appliance, or a generator hookup, not a rewire.

The houses, and what’s in their walls

  1. 1950s–1970s ranchers & split-levels

Original 100-amp services, two-prong outlets, few GFCIs, and decades of add-ons in the basement.

  2. 1980s–1990s colonials

Panels at capacity once a finished basement, hot tub or second HVAC system goes in.

  3. 2000s Honeygo-area homes

Sound wiring; most calls are lighting, fans, surge protection and generator inlets.

Weather and the grid

Summer thunderstorms roll down the Gunpowder valley and knock out power on the wooded streets first. The June 2012 derecho left much of the area dark for days, which is why generator and surge questions come up so often here.

Perry Hall questions

Asked in Perry Hall.

Burning smell, sparks, a hot panel or half the house dark? Turn off the breaker or the main if you can do it safely, then call (410) 663-1026. For fire or smoke, get out and call 911. For a downed line, stay clear and call BGE.

Do you really work in Perry Hall, or just nearby?

Perry Hall is home base. Justified Electrical Services has been based here since 2007, so most of our work is a short drive from the shop, along Belair Road, Joppa Road, Ebenezer Road and out toward Honeygo.

My Perry Hall house still has its original 100-amp panel. Do I need to upgrade?

Not automatically. A 100-amp service can be fine for a gas-heated house with modest loads. It becomes a problem when you add central air, an electric range or dryer, a heat pump, a hot tub or an EV charger. We do a load calculation and tell you honestly whether the panel, the service or neither needs to change.

Who issues electrical permits in Perry Hall?

Perry Hall is not an incorporated town, so permits and inspections come from Baltimore County. When a job needs a permit, we pull it and schedule the inspection.

What should I do when a storm knocks the power out on my street?

Report it to BGE first. If only part of your house is out, or you smell burning or see sparks, shut off the main breaker if you can do it safely and call us. Never connect a portable generator to house wiring without a proper interlock or transfer switch.
